Before I sit down at my drawing board, here is a good read for today for anyone looking for advice on how to take a break from it all.


Factoids* of the day:

  • No new money is coming in from NATO allies.
  • Our current immigration system states that immigrants "contribute to government finances by paying taxes and add expenditures by consuming public services"
  • Cost savings on the F-35 jet were announced on Dec. 19, 2016. The Pentagon took action before the presidential election to save money on the contract.
  • Congress raised defense budgets three times in recent years. Base defense budget grew by 14.3% ($41 billion) in 2002; by 11.3% ($37 billion) in 2003; and by 10.9% ($47 billion) in 2008. The current president proposes to raise the defense budget by 10% ($54 billion) Inflation happens.
  • The nation's unemployment rate stands at 4.8%.
  • 94 million Americans, (including retirees, stay at home parents, high school and college students, and everyone 16 and older who doesn't have a job and is not looking for one) are not in the labor force.
  • Homeland Security Department research found that of 82 people the government determined were inspired by a foreign terrorist group to attempt or carry out an attack in the U.S., just over half were native-born citizens.
  • Syed Rizwan Farook was born in Chicago.
  • Jeff Sessions is still out there.
